Ukrainian president in hospital with coronavirus – POLITICO

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been admitted into a hospital isolation ward, after testing positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

The president is still working from Feofaniya Clinic in Kyiv and a special channel has been established to his office, but he cannot see anybody, Ukrayinska Pravda reported on Thursday morning.

Zelenskiy said Monday on Telegram that he was experiencing fever: “I have 37.5 [degrees], and I wish everyone 36.6!”

Other politicians and officials have also contracted the virus: Parliament speaker Dmytro Razumkov said he tested positive this week and Zelenskiy’s head of office, Andriy Yermak, was admitted to the same hospital as the president with COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian government introduced a weekend lockdown, hoping to avoid having to shut down the whole economy.

Ukraine has recorded 11,000 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, according to numbers published on Thursday morning. In total, more than 9,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the country.
